Broke and Bespoke

As frequent readers of this blog probably already know, I’m no fan of the closet full of solid blues, greys, tans, and maybe—if one is particularly adventurous—greens and burgundies. I think that kind of simplicity looks absolutely stunning when well executed, and is certainly the safer and simpler route to go for a person who either wants to project an air of refinement without running any risk of slipping into caricature, or who has trouble envisioning things of varying pattern, texture, and color coordinating with each other. But I’m also no fan of matching items too closely. For example, here the shirt has the same grey and tan as the jacket, and the orange and burgundy of the pocket square complement the colors of the gun club check pattern in the shirt’s flannel. The traces of blue in the pocket square were mirrored in the vest I originally had on under the jacket. It’s little details like these that make getting dressed each day fun for me, and renders my ‘style,’ (I feel a little ridiculous writing such a thing…) a genuine reflection of my self.
