Here’s a vintage H. Freeman & Son (not to be confused with Hickey Freeman, another storied American manufacturer) light grey wool sack jacket with a soft natural shoulder, and a 3 roll 2 lapel and button configuration. It’s a great muted grey for the Spring/Summer, especially if paired with a pair of pants that are a bit more eye-catching, like white jeans or some bright chinos.
I bought it years ago at a Salvation Army in Ann Arbor, MI for around $5, but just switched out its original boring grey buttons for these white MoP ones yesterday. I used navy blue thread for an extra bit of character. It’s my DIY attempt at fusing American traditional style with some of the more attention grabbing details found in Italian menswear. I have another navy blazer I want to switch the buttons out for the warmer months, and was thinking about using two colors of thread per button, like navy and green, or navy and burgundy…I’ll post pics if, and when, I get around to it.
Tie: Robert Talbott, thrifted $2.50
Pocket Square: Tie Bar, $8

J. Press braces, in Yale blue and white. These were given to me by a good friend who used to row for Yale’s mens heavyweight crew team in the mid-to-late 90s. He assures me that the Harvard crimson that resides near the wearer’s arse is a purposeful design element.

I love coming across Brooks Brothers ties of this vintage when I’m thrifting. Solid construction, nice foulards, paisleys, and stripes, and the perfect width (between 3.25” and 3.5”).
The yellow one was my most recent find, and it’s in flawless condition (as though it has literally never been worn). Picked up on Thursday for $2.

Vintage 1980s Princeton T-Shirt.
Was my mom’s, she’d been given it by a friend who taught there in the ’80s.
