Napoli Su Misura: First Fitting…
Although there was a bit of a snafu and Gus’s suit wasn’t available for his final fitting, I did run into a fellow StyleForum member who was there to have some adjustments made to a pair of pants he’d already taken delivery of, to place some orders for another jacket using some gorgeous Dormeuil fabric he’d brought along, and to have the first fitting for this gorgeous summer jacket made out of a wool, (silk?), and linen blend.
It was interesting to see how Dino of NSM (see pic 3) made notes of the changes the client wanted made. Instead of writing anything down, he would videotape the client and have his assistant dictate notes about where the garment needed to be brought in, let out, shortened, etc.
It was a real privilege to see a Neapolitan tailor at work in the midst of a Neapolitan tailoring renaissance. I’m not sure how much of it is occasioned by my own buying into the hype of the dominant tailoring style in menswear right now, but I feel as though softly tailored jackets that fit like shirts are things I’d be happy to wear for the rest of my days.
