I picked up a new piece of outerwear from Lands’ End during their recent 40% any one item sale. It was this oilcloth (waxed cotton) jacket in the British country style, a la Barbour and other outfitters of the English country dweller. The fabric is made by British Millerain, a company with a storied history of producing oilcoth—or waxed cotton—since the late nineteenth century.  Originally priced at $250, it’s a nice alternative to its more pricey British counterparts. To sweeten the deal, the jacket has been marked down to $140, and with an additional 40% off of the sale price, it was hard for me to resist pulling the trigger.

Now I’m just waiting for the temperature to drop so this can be a regular in my rotation. It’s supposed to get up to 90 today. Consequently, I’m only wearing a polo shirt at the moment, though it is probably currently somewhere in the mid-to-high 50s outside, fully appropriate temperatures for my new coat. Unfortunately it’s hanging in the closet at home (by which I mean draped haphazardly over a chair in a cluttered and very small apartment that is bursting at seams with an excess of clothing and inadequate storage).

I’m sure you’ll be seeing much more of this coat in the coming months…
