Black Friday. 2009. Went shopping for some deals. Hit up a small local ‘department store’ in the city—SF, not NY. They’re hit or miss. Lots of last season J Crew, Anthropologie, etc. Salvage stuff from Brioni, Kiton, Tom Ford—suits with big-ass rips in them. 7 fold ties with ill-ass runs in them. Occasionally crazy deals on things with no imperfections. Polo pants for $10, Incotexes for $20. Billy Reid khakis for $15, you get the picture. Crazy right? Black Friday ‘09 was epic. Footwear game on stratospheric. Tricker’s Stow boots for $90. I was a broke grad student and bought a couple pairs. One to keep, one to flip. Flipped them for $325. I crapped my Sorahikos. Went back. They were marked down an additional 30%. Bought the remaining 5 or so pairs for $70. Flipped ‘em. Wish I’d kept the light tan suede ones for myself…I still cry at night over it.
